Other conditions also have a strong nutritional component: anemia, gallstones, food allergies, eating disorders (anorexia and bulimia), lactose intolerance, kidney stones, and Alzheimers diseases.  Medical nutrition therapy can have a significant impact on the prevention, treatment, and outcome of disease states.

Registered dietitians play a critical role in patient care through education and nutritional therapy.  As well as nutrition research probably offers more to the prevention of chronic disease in the United States than any other medical discipline.

The Department of Clinical Nutrition is one component of the Allied Health Sciences School of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, located at 6011 Harry Hines Boulevard (campus map).  The administration of the school is carried out under the leadership of its dean, Dr. Gordon Green. The School is home to ten allied health professional programs. The faculty members of the Department of Clinical Nutrition have either primary or secondary appointments in the Allied Health Sciences School.

The University of Texas Sothwestern Medical Center at Dallas is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, GA 30033-4097, 404-679-4501) to award the bachelor's, master's, doctoral, and medical professional degrees.
