Brief Description of Project:
Platelet derived growth factor C (PDCR-C) is a newly discovered growth factor. We have recently shown PDGF-C mRNA expression in both rodent and human skin samples. PDGF-C appears to be regulated during wound healing. This project involves preparing total RNA preps from normal and diabetic animals that have received partial and full thickness wounds. RT-PCR analyses will be performed to investigate relative PDGF-C expression levels compliance to PDGF-A and PDGF-B mRNA levels.
Previous Work:
Five medical students rotated through the Dept. of Plastic Surgery Laboratory. This was a fun and valuable experience, but short due to our recent start up of July 2000. All students submitted abstracts to the medical school symposium and one student entered their work to a national convention. Three manuscripts are currently being prepared with assistance from respective students.
