Project Title: Evaluation of Signaling in Capsular Contracture

Brief Description of Project:

Capsular Contracture (CC) is a serious long-term side effect of implanting foreign materials; especially for women with silicon-filled breast implants. Although many biological pathways are involved, the mechanisms for CC tissue responses are not known. We will be examining human breast CC tissue on a cellular level using histology and immunohistology, in human and rabbit samples. Levels of candidate signaling molecules will be explored.
