Brief Description of Project: Dennis Burns has collected several hundred autopsies from patients dying of AIDS, and he has pathology on brains, spinal cords, and in many cases peripheral nerves. A group of patients involved in the National Neuro-AIDS tissue consortium will also be used. The project aims to determine whether genetic factors such as APOE4, IL-1A*2, and others, which are associated with Alzheimer's disease, are also involved in a HIV dementia, myelopathy, and peripheral neuropathy.
