Project title: Mechanism of Amphotericin Induced Renal Failure
Human subjects IRB approved project number (where applicable):
Animal subjects IRB approved project number (where applicable): submitted
Project Type (patient-based research, animal-based research, or basic research;

similar types of projects)
Animal-based
Brief Description of Project:
Amphotericin is an antifungal agent that is commonly used in clinical practice. It has known major side effects that include renal damage. The literature suggests that this may be mediated through CYP450 enzymes that are known to be abundantly expressed in the kidney and are thought to induce changes in renal blood flow. This project is designed to examine the direct effects of amphotericin on renal blood flow in rats and determine which of the CYP450 enzymes/products may be contributing to the renal damage. The student will be performing the experiments under my direct supervision.
