Human subjects IRB approved project number (where applicable):

Animal subjects IRB approved project number (where applicable):

Project Type (patient-based research, animal-based research, or basic research; this characterization is only to permit a general classification for grouping similar types of projects)
Animal-based research

Brief Description of Project:

Heterozygous mutations of the Sim1 gene have been shown to cause obesity in mouse and man. Sim1 encodes a hypothalamic transcription factor. The project involves creating double mutants in Sim1 and the melanocortin signaling pathway previously implicated in the central control of energy balance to determine whether Sim1 modulates the activity of this pathway.
