Project title: The Role of LXRs in Skin
Human subjects IRB approved project number (where applicable): N/A
Animal subjects IRB approved project number (where applicable): 0693-02-02-1
Project Type (patient-based research, animal-based research, or basic
research; this characterization is only to permit a general classification
for grouping similar types of projects): animal based research
Brief Description of Project:
The hypothesis is that lipid metabolism in skin is mediated by LXRs.
The specific aims for this project are:
1. to evaluate the expression of LXRa and b in skin, sebaceous glands, and preputial
glands.
2. to determine if LXR agonists can induce specific changes in lipid metabolism
and hair growth in skin.
We will utilize LXR-null mice to study follicle and sebocyte proliferation,
sebaceous lipid secretion and composition, and hair production with and without
LXR agonist treatment.
Previous Research Activities or Publications with Medical Students: None (excluding
