Project I title: Effect of P450 metabolites on sodium proton exchange activity

Human subjects IRB approved project number (where applicable): N/A

Animal subjects IRB approved project number (where applicable): N/A

Project Type (patient-based research, animal-based research, or basic research; this characterization is only to permit a general classification for grouping similar types of projects)
Basic Research (cell culture)

Brief Description of Project: The primary transporter in the proximal tubule that is responsible for reabsorption of sodium is the sodium-proton exchanger. There is evidence that eicosanoids produced by cytochrome P450 enzymes located in the proximal tubule are responsible for regulating sodium transport. This project will directly examine the effects of these eicosanoids on sodium-proton exchanger activity in OKP cells.

Project II title: Mechanism of Amphotericin Induced Renal Failure

Previous Research Activities or Publications with Medical Students: Jennifer Lang worked on a project with me last summer as an MS0. She will be continuing her work which is a separate project.
