Project title: Inborn Errors of Metabolism - Childrens Eyelid Lipids
Human subjects IRB approved project number (where applicable): 1202-689
Animal subjects IRB approved project number (where applicable): none
Project Type (patient-based research)
Brief Description of Project: Early detection of inborn errors in lipid metabolism is essential. A possible source of abnormal lipids is the meibomian glands of the eyelid. Lipid samples will be collected from the eyelids of children with inborn errors of lipid metabolism. The lipids will then be analyzed for various lipids and this data will be compared to the childs disease. It is hoped that a rapid test for these diseases can be developed.
Previous Research Activities or Publications with Medical Students: David Whiting
from Washington University was a summer student for two summers. He was paid
from department funds during this time.
