Project title: Medication Non-Adherence in the Elderly
Human subjects IRB approved project number (where applicable): Pending
Animal subjects IRB approved project number (where applicable):
Project Type (patient-based research, animal-based research, or basic research; this characterization is only to permit a general classification for grouping similar types of projects) Patient-Based Research
Brief Description of Project:
Non-adherence to prescribed drug regimens in the elderly is a common problem,
which results in decreased efficacy and is associated with increased individual
and societal expenditures. Reasons for non-adherence vary according to the population
examined. The purpose of this research project is to identify variables affecting
risk for medication non-adherence in an indigent, largely minority elderly population.
Variables will be used in a clinical tool to predict non-adherence and later,
to design interventions to improve adherence.
