Project title: HITS Screening in Pediatric and Adolescent Populations and Development of Universal HITS

Human subjects IRB approved project number (where applicable): IRB Number: 0302-138

Project Type patient-based research

Brief Description of Project: This study will look at utilization of a short, four-item screening tool (HITS) in the adolescent population in order to enable health care providers to identify those at risk. Parents and children ages 12-18 will be recruited over a 12-month period from primary care settings, clinics, and emergency rooms. The parent/caregiver will be asked to complete a survey for children under the age of 12. Adolescents and teens over 12 years old will complete the same survey themselves. The aggregate survey data from standard long instruments; i.e. Conflict Tactics Scale (CTS), Parent-Child Conflict Tactics Scale (CTSPC) and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE), will be compared with data from the short HITS instrument. Data will be analyzed in aggregate.
