Basic research

Brief Description of Project:

Temporal hollowing following neurosurgical procedures, especially bifrontal craniotomies, is a well recognized but poorly defined problem, resulting in permanent and sometimes significant facial asymmetry and disfigurement. Proposed research project includes a thorough literature review of all pertinent literature pertaining to temporal hollowing as well as a review of current patient series at this institution regarding the correction of temporal hollowing as well as preparing both the synopsis of the literature review as well as the current correction techniques in a journal-publishable paper. The medical student will be involved in all aspects, and we would expect a publishable manuscript at the completion of the summer course.

Previous Research Activities or Publications with Medical Students:

Research into use of bioscaffolding in complex wounds; no students since becoming a new faculty member.
