Brief Description of Project:
A variety of on-going projects in the laboratory will be looking at the roles of various nuclear receptors that regulate lipid metabolism, with particular emphasis on: 1) skin and alopecia, 2) colon cancer. These studies involve animal-based and basic research funded by HHMI and the NIH (pending grant #).
Previous Research Activities or Publications with Medical Students:
1. Bryan Ong - student who studied LXR and oxysterol signaling in skin and its potential role in androgenetic alopecia (Summer, 2003).
2. Reese Graves - student who set up the DNA sequencing strategy to look for
polymorphisms and/or mutations in the vitamin D receptor from patients with
colorectal cancer (Summer, 2003).
