2. TRIUMPH acute coronary syndrome registry
Human subjects IRB approved project number (where applicable): 1. 082004-017; 2. 032005-044
Animal subjects IRB approved project number (where applicable): N/A
Project Type Patient-based research (1. Randomized clinical trial; 2. Observational registry)
Brief Description of Project:
1. Randomized study of rosiglitazone versus placebo in patients with type 2
diabetes with or at risk for cardiovascular disease. Assessing exercise testing
parameters, cardiac MRI, and cardiac spectroscopy (detects intra-myocyte triglyceride
content).
2. TRIUMPH study is enrolling consecutive patients admitted to Parkland hospital
with diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome. Collection of extensive health history
information using survey/interview and data abstraction from medical records
with computer data entry.
Previous Research Activities or Publications with Medical Students:
-2 students spent 2 summers completing a randomized study of post-MI care strategies;
just completed database and in process of writing manuscript (students are co-primary
authors)
-2 students launched the TRIUMPH registry recruitment last summer; no scientific
output yet from this early multi-center project
