Project title: Characterization of vascular territories in porcine perforator flaps

Human subjects IRB approved project number (where applicable):

Animal subjects IACUC approved project number (where applicable): pending

Project Type (patient-based research, animal-based research, or basic research; this characterization is only to permit a general classification for grouping similar types of projects)

Animal-based

Brief Description of Project:

Perforator flaps are new tools for plastic surgeons to cover large wounds with a skin flap that is supported by a small, perforator artery. The ability of how much tissue one perforator artery can vascularize is not well known. This porcine study will involve the introduction of perforator flaps in the porcine mode and study the vascular changes in the surrounding arteries and veins. The student will assist in the animal surgery, radiologic assessments and the subsequent calculations.
