(1)Project title: Prospective Evaluation of Pulmonary Function in Pediatric Spinal Deformity Comparing Video Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) with Other Surgical Approache
Human subjects IRB approved project number: 0500-233

Project Type: Prospective project (patient)

Brief Description of Project: Purpose of Project: To prospectively evaluate the changes in pulmonary function in patients undergoing surgical intervention for juvenile (JIS) or adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) or idiopathic (Scheuermann's) kyphosis comparing video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery to perform an anterior spinal fusion and instrumentation (VATS- ASFI) with other operative approaches.

(2)Project title: Retrospective Cerebral Palsy Scoliosis Study: Quantifying Outcomes and Risks
Human subjects IRB approved project number: 4-06-817

Project Type: retrospective chart review (patient)

Brief Description of Project: PURPOSE: To gain a better understanding of the surgical treatment of patients with cerebral palsy who have spinal deformity, understanding the differences in surgical procedure, perioperative parameters which predict the improved outcome-including the type of procedure performed, timing of surgery, whether the surgery is staged, and the type of implants utilized. Additionally, a better understanding of an accurate incidence of complications will be performed in this study, especially given the large number of institutions involved and the significant number of patients who will be reviewed.

(3)Project title: Bernese (Ganz) Periacetabular Osteotomy in Adolescent Hip Dysplasia

Human subjects IRB approved project number: 0302-169

Project Type: retrospective chart review (patient)

Brief Description of Project: Purpose: To evaluate the functional and radiographic outcome of adolescent hip dysplasia following a Bernese (Ganz) Osteotomy.
A retrospective chart and radiographic review will be conducted of all patients who meet the inclusion criteria. Medical records will be reviewed to identify name, date of birth, hospital ID number, and ethnicity, age at presentation, clinical and radiographic data and final outcome following treatment. The radiographs will be reviewed to study the degree of dysplasia, the amount of correction and the final results.
