Project title: Heat Shock Proteins
Human subjects IRB approved project number (where applicable): 112005-019
Animal subjects IACUC approved project number (where applicable): 0976-04-05-1,
0976-05-06-1
Project Type (patient-based research, animal-based research, or basic research; this characterization is only to permit a general classification for grouping similar types of projects)
Patient-based
Animal -based
Brief Description of Project:
Heat shock proteins represent a family of molecules that are expressed at elevated
levels when cells are stressed. This is the case when skin is exposed to laser
light energy. The measurement of heat shock proteins in a rodent animal model
following laser treatments will provide insights into new treatment algorithms.
An ongoing clinical trail using laser energy for the removal of white leg hairs is ongoing.
The student will assist in laser procedures with animals, subsequent tissue collection, immunohistochemistry and analysis of histological slides from these specimens.
