Project title: Oleic acid affect on peripheral nerve, tensile strength of flexor
tendon
Insertion
Human subjects IRB approved project number (where applicable): applying
Animal subjects IACUC approved project number (where applicable):
Project Type (patient-based research, animal-based research, or basic research; this characterization is only to permit a general classification for grouping similar types of projects)
Basic
Brief Description of Projects:
1. Oleic acid affects on peripheral nerve post-traumatic neuronal budding.
Using in vitro human nerve cell cultures, the effects of oleic acid will be
examined on nerve bundle formation, number and response to various chemical
stimuli.
2. A second smaller biomechanical experimental protocol will be performed to examine the tensile strength of flexor tendon insertion and the strength of bone anchor versus conventional wire repair of jersey finger defect. Using the Instron tensiometer, the biomechanical properties of flexor tendons and bone anchors will be determined in cadaver specimens.
