Project title: The evaluation and treatment of chronic or recurrent otorrhea
in children.
Human subjects IRB approved project number (where applicable): pending
Animal subjects IRB approved project number (where applicable): N/A
Project Type (patient-based research, animal-based research, or basic research; this characterization is only to permit a general classification for grouping similar types of projects)
patient-based
Brief Description of Project:
2 to 3 % of children with ear tubes have chronic and recurrent otorrhea that can be difficult to treat. These children receive continued oral and topical antibiotics and still have problems. In the past, the only options were IV antibiotics, tube removal or mastoidectomy. Dr. McClay has treated 70 to 90 kids over ten yrs with adenoidectomy, or allergy treatment. In this retrospective study, we will try to determine the efficacies of these treatments.
The hypothesis is that there are new ways out patient ways to treat chronic or recurrent otorrhea and the medical student will review the charts of up to 100 children with this problem to identify the option treatment or treatments.
