Brief Description of Project: The Dallas Glaucoma Registry is a project aimed at establishing and maintaining a registry of patients with glaucoma at Aston Clinic, Parkland Hospital, and the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The objective is to improve clinical outcomes for patients by better understanding the variability, progression, and clinical course of glaucoma. The estimated scope of the registry includes 15,000-20,000 patients from UTSW and associated institutions; the large sample size allows many combinations of variables to be compared against each other in an effort to assess the best clinical treatment for this disease. The current hypothesis being investigated is that African-Americans require more intense medical and surgical interventions for controlling their intraocular pressures and exhibit a more rapid disease progression than Caucasian patients with glaucoma.
