Brief Description of Project:

We have established a database for revision THRs done at UT Southwestern Medical Center. The purpose of this present study is to:

" continue to input data from more patients since the last update in 2007
" identify those patients who had undergone revision surgery multiple times and specifically analyze the cause(s) of re-revision and the clinical outcome of this subset of patients
" Specifically, focus will be placed upon analysis of the following 2 topics:
¢ Instability: patients who have had a dislocation following revision THR. We will do ANOVA analysis and determine if there is(are) any predictors for this complication following revision THRs. Additionally, we will analyze the clinical and radiographic outcome of the reconstructions.
¢ Cost Analysis of Revision THR: CMS (Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services) increased payment to hospitals for revision THR in September, 2006 by on average 26%. We will analyze the cost data for 50 consecutive revision THRs done prior to September, 2006 and after September, 2006. We will determine if the increased payment affected the financial burden of revision THR. Our hypothesis is that the increased payment was insufficient in offsetting the costs of revision THR.
