Patient-based research

Brief Description of Project:

A variety of projects involving anemia, bleeding disorders, and while blood cell problems are possible student investigators. Several of medical conditions in which research projects are available include:
1) Sickle cell disease
2) Hereditary spherocytosis and other hemolytic anemias
3) Iron deficiency anemia
4) Immune thrombocytopenic purpura
5) Hemophilia
6) Neutropenia
7) The spleen, splenectomy, and post-splenectomy complications

Previous Research Activities or Publications with Medical Students:

Approximately 20 medical students have undertaken research in the division of hematology-oncology during the past 15-20 years. Many projects have resulted presentations at national meetings and publications in peer-reviewed journals.
