Project title: Studies in Gastrointestinal Bleeding

Animal subjects IRB approved project number (where applicable): N/A
Project Type (patient-based research, animal-based research, or basic research;

Patient-based research
Brief Description of Project:
Our group has been highly active in a variety of studies focused on gastrointestinal bleeding. These studies range from retrospective database studies (we have set up a dedicated registry with which to track all patients seen at Parkland Memorial Hospital) to prospective randomized controlled trials. Topics include the utility of a nasogastric tube in UGI bleeding, importance of hematocrit values in patients undergoing endoscopy, outcomes of UGI bleeding in patients with portal hypertensive bleeding and nonvariceal UGI hemorrhage, and many others. The bleeding team has submitted over 15 abstracts in this area in 2007 and 2008.
