Summer researchers: start now to maximize the range of opportunities available to you

- the summer program supports research only at UT Southwestern

- there are a number of programs that are available outside of UT Southwestern - these fall into two categories: 1) fixed locations (e.g. NIH, Mount Sinai, Vanderbilt), and 2) free-standing programs (e.g. AOA, Endocrine society).
The former require only an application, but often have preexisting bias (e.g. the programs at Vanderbilt and Sinai are focused on diabetes and cancer, respectively; the NIH is quite broad and without bias). The latter require some direction and preparation (application, potential project); advantage: flexibility in location.
