This course is designed for nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, and physician assistants who currently work in gynecology practice settings and want to perform screening and surveillance colposcopic examinations. The American Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (ASCCP) accredit the colposcopy course as an approved program. Nursing and medical continuing education credits are available upon successful completion of the program.

The course is divided into both didactic and preceptorship components. The format of the course includes lectures, case studies, discussion, hands-on practica and observation of clinical colposcopic examinations. The preceptorship immediately follows the didactic course and must be completed within one year. During the preceptorship the student is required to complete 70 colposcopic exams, 50 of which are to be directly supervised. Participants are responsible for arranging their own preceptorship.
