The WHCNPP is a certificate-advanced
practice-nursing program with options for completing a Master of Science in
Nursing (MSN). The Program consists of a 16-week didactic portion followed by
a five and one-half month (24 weeks) preceptorship. The program is divided
into approximately 300 hours of didactic instruction, 300 hours of
faculty-supervised clinical experience, and 480 hours of faculty-monitored,
preceptor-supervised clinical experience. The program focus is on health care
for women throughout the lifespan and emphasizes health promotion as well
as diagnosis and management of health conditions. Closely integrated
with didactic instruction is the clinical component of the program. Students
spend approximately 20 hours per week in various clinical settings, including
county-wide family planning and prenatal clinics, a county health department
STD clinic, labor and delivery triage, and various other specialty clinics at
Parkland Health and Hospital System. In 2007, requirements to practice as a nurse
