Pieces of undergraduate research are designed to be completed within a semester. But they can also be continued for longer, including as full-time summer student.
They include the following:
• find fly mutations that have lost their orange eye color (P-element excisions), and
characterize them molecularly, and behaviorally.
• PCR-amplify and clone DNA fragments, and test them in cell culture assays.
• screen for new mutants with altered morphology, and behavior.
